Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.” Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true, a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. Sessions are pleasant and often utilized to promote personal wellness. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing.
During the initial session, we will describe the session to you, give you an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues you are experiencing and ask you what you are hoping to achieve from your session. For the actual session, you will rest comfortably on a massage table on your back with your shoes removed. Reiki can be performed with you sitting comfortably in a chair as well. No articles of clothing are removed and you are fully clothed. A session can either be hands-on, where hands will be placed on your body with a light touch during the session, or hands-off where the hands are held slightly above your body. If you prefer not to be touched you can indicate this before we begin. You can also request to listen to chants or for the session to remain quiet.
The session will then proceed by checking your chakras with a pendulum and then moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at your feet. You may feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all as Reiki is unique to each individual.
Sessions are 30 minutes for $50 and 60 minutes for $85. These prices will be implemented in February 2018.
