Cheryl Gray


Cheryl Gray (she, her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20+ years experience working with diverse populations in three different states (PA, MN, and VA).  She has worked with adults, adolescents, and children seeking assistance related to trauma, attention issues, emotional regulation, self esteem, negative thinking patterns, anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues.  She has worked at a domestic violence shelter, in family homes with community mental health, public and private schools, and outpatient offices.  

Cheryl developed and supervised a program to provide services to students with mental health issues in their school.  She completed her certification for Emotional Freedom Techniques (Tapping) in 2017.  Cheryl worked in the school system as a social worker for 3 years providing staff education, DBT groups, individual therapy, and behavior management strategies to students with special education needs.  She also worked with academically and athletically advanced students on peak performance.  Cheryl moved to Richmond, VA in 2019 and began working at a private school as a behavioral health clinician.  She became their Supervisor of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and provided education to staff, measured outcomes, and implemented a TIC program that consisted of group student curriculum and parent involvement.  She received her clinical license in Virginia in 2021 and began her outpatient therapy career that year.  

Specialties

Cheryl enjoys discovering client strengths and guiding them through the healing process so they can be the best version of themselves. Cheryl works with children ages 14-18 and adults experiencing trauma-related symptoms, attention issues, emotional regulation concerns, negative thinking patterns, anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues.  She identifies as an anti-racist and ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Treatment Modalities

Cheryl uses various interventions including EMDR (EMDRIA certified practitioner) and CBT, as well as skill building exercises using DBT and Mindfulness strategies. She is strongly influenced by the Polyvagal Theory and works with our bodies towards feelings of safety.  She is a strength-based clinician who believes that therapy is an act of self-care which we all deserve. She feels that we all need a team to get through the ups and downs of life.  Cheryl would be honored to be a member of your team.

Cheryl enjoys being outside with family and friends.  She golfs, practices yoga, and gardens in her spare time.  She enjoys watching hockey and Steelers football.  Cheryl is passionate about learning and attends various trainings, listens to podcasts, and reads articles and books about mental health and healing.
